Choosing the Right Upholstery for your Cumbernauld Home
Part 2: Synethic Fibres
We are asked many times about the types of fabrics that are best for certain applications in both Cumbernauld homes and business alike. Many people opt for natural materials, more information of which can be read in the first part of this articles. But, with many technologies and process available, many fabrics are now being created that have the advantages of natural fabrics but with some of the disadvantages being negated.
And so, if you think man-made upholstery is the option for you, read on to see which ones could suit:
Acetate is an imitation of the naturally occurring silk but offers additional qualities, such as increased durability, resistance to piling and shrinking but, if you are looking for something to resist every day spills and stains, then this fabric does not offer the best qualities. For an everyday fabric, you will need to look further afield.
Acrylic is lightweight and wears well as was developed as an alternative to wool; it is brilliant for NOT wrinkling, soiling and fading but there tends to be difference in quality of acrylics available, so make sure you choose a high quality acrylic.
Microfiber is a lightweight durable fabric that is highly absorbent that does not wrinkle or stain too easily but, there is one drawback that puts many people off and that is the fact that this material can be electrostatically charged, meaning small particles such as dust can be almost impossible to wipe off!
Nylon is rarely used as its own, found combined with other fabrics to create an almost perfect fabric, with brilliant resistance but, it does tend to fade and pill.
Rayon, for many upholstery Cumbernauld customers, wrinkles far too easily but offers a high level of durability. Developed as an imitation to silk, linen and cotton, it is actually made from wood pulp and recent technological applications has seen this material become a very practical upholstery fabric.
Vinyl is an imitation of leather, which some upholstery Cumbernauld customers found was budget busting for larger projects. This is a brilliant and practical choice for Cumbernauld households, especially in rooms where children play! Easily wiped to keep perfectly clean, it is incredibly durable too.
