Upholstery Glasgow South
Upholstery cleaning myths - don't fall victim!
Upholstery is once again, amongst Glasgow South customers and beyond, gaining in popularity. People are realising the creative freedom they have when it comes to choosing their own upholstery fabric for their sofa, chair, dining chairs and more, rather than having to choose from a narrow range at a local superstore.
Likewise, people are more conscious about throwing items away, preferring instead to invest in high quality furniture and brilliant upholstery.
But, once you have spent time and energy choosing the perfect fabric, how do you keep it looking great, and not fall foul of the many upholstery cleaning myths that are out there? Glasgow South customers (and beyond!) of upholstery can benefit from the expert advice of Upholstery Scotland.
Read on to avoid the cleaning myths that see so many people ruin or damage their prized upholstery fabric…
Is dry cleaning always the best?
In many cases it is and this is based on the fact that water based solvents and cleaners can damage fabrics, making the colour run for example. As a result, people have created an illusion that dry cleaning is always safe but… no matter how you intend on cleaning your upholstery, you (or the dry cleaner) really should test a small patch of unseen fabric to check the reaction of the fabric to any chemical or water-based cleaning products.
Use only very hot water for great cleaning results?
It seems that the myth of as hot as your hand can stand it has made its way to being one of the most common upholstery cleaning myths. In the case of some fabrics, this might be correct; hot water breaks down some of the residue or stain quickly, and without the need for heavy scrubbing action and the like.
However, just like dry cleaning upholstery, Glasgow South customers should be cautious and check on a small piece of fabric if hot water is the right temperature. Fabrics that are not colour fast, will 'leak' their colour quickly. Some fabrics are actually damaged by heat, so take real care before cleaning the whole sofa!
Don't assume that because it is a synthetic fabric, it is safe to clean or wash with anything!
You will have spent time, energy and money on choosing and creating the perfectly upholstered piece of your home or business, and we do not want to see it destroyed in minutes with the scrub of a brush, hot water and a cleaning solution. Many Glasgow South customers of bespoke upholstery assume that all synthetic fabrics are the perfect choice when they are in a position where cleaning of them may be required.
In fact, we strongly suggest that before you clean your upholstery that you do a small patch test or contact us. We know just how to look after all fabrics we use in upholstery projects for Glasgow South customers and beyond!
